Exciting news about our partnered International Artist-In-Residency Program in collaboration with Messums | ORG supporting Australian artist Sammy Hawker with upcoming residency and exhibition at Messums | ORG

The Corridor Project is delighted to acknowledge the recent awarding of the prestigious Ian Potter Cultural Trust Emerging Artist Grant to interdisciplinary artist Sammy Hawker. This significant opportunity will contribute in supporting Hawker’s upcoming International Artists-In-Residence program with Messums | ORG that includes a solo international exhibition Ghosts [& Monsters] opening at Messums West in October-November 2025.

Established by The Ian Potter Foundation in 1993, the Cultural Trust supports exceptional early-career Australian artists to undertake professional development opportunities abroad. This grant positions Hawker within a long tradition of cultural practitioners whose work speaks meaningfully to both regional and global contexts.

The forthcoming Messums exhibition forms part of The Corridor Project’s ongoing International Exchange Partnership with Messums | ORG, and exemplifies our organisation’s commitment to supporting early to mid career artists with research-led cultural dialogue across borders. Through sustained engagement with site, process, and practice, Hawker’s work contributes to an evolving critical discourse around landscape, temporality, and cultural stewardship.

Residency Dates

SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 2025 - MESSUMS EAST

Australian photographer Sammy Hawker will take up artist-in-residence at Messums East in Lowestoft, researching land change and community in the area. Sammy proposes to explore near and long term changes to landscape and the environment, anthropocentric living, migration choices and the resonances of the past. The outcome will be the creation of a publicaton and film to be stored in Lowestoft. Learn more about Messums | ORG initiative HERE

About Sammy

Sammy Hawker is an Australian-based visual artist working predominantly on Ngunawal / Ngunnawal / Ngambri Country [Canberra Region, ACT] and Walbunja Country [Southern Tablelands / South Coast region, NSW]

Through practices of reciprocity (facilitated acts of co-creation) Sammy's works explore the potential of interspecies dialogue, giving voice to the presences of more-than human worlds. These works reflect on how sentience and memory is inscribed within materials, sites and bodies.

Sammy’s multi-disciplinary practice embraces photography, printmaking, text, sculpture, sound and moving image. These works form a vast and ongoing archive, documenting sites and moments of exchange.

Hawker’s multi-disciplinary practice—situated at the intersection of photography, field recording, and place-responsive archival research—has developed substantially during her artist in residency placements at The Corridor Project between 2021 and 2025. Her evolving body of work interrogates the spectral presence of environmental change and human memory through analogue imaging, deep listening, and embodied site-based methodologies, photography, printmaking, text, sculpture, sound and moving image. These works form a vast and ongoing archive, documenting sites and moments of exchange.

About Us

The CORRIDOR project (TCP) is an arts and cultural organisation dedicated to supporting creativity, collaboration, and connection located on Wiradjuri Country in the Central West of NSW.

Established in 2011, TCP is situated along the Bila Galari (Lachlan River), where architecturally restored shearers’ quarters and a repurposed historic woolshed provide unique spaces for artists and the community to stay, create, and engage with the environment.

We offer studio spaces, accommodation, and equipment, supporting a dynamic annual program of residencies, events, and workshops. Inspired by the striking granite-strewn hills, river systems, expansive night skies, and habitat corridors, TCP provides a place for creative exploration in regional Australia.
