‘From a young age, Anja has been interested in exploration. Post graduating from high school in 2021, Anja is currently taking a gap year off to potter in ceramics and other design-based disciplines, building a body of work for her portfolio.  Anja's use of materials and methodologies are influenced by textures, fibres, the physiology of plants and seasonal change. Participating in the National Art School HSC intensive ceramic program - 2021, has further developed an interest in possibilities of mud and kiln firing. Under the mentorship of ceramicist Rebecca Dowling [2015-present], Anja has developed studio skills building on the early foundations of design thinking, structural building, glazing and firing taught by Rebecca and influenced by daily observations.’ AG - 2022

Literary Sphere an area of activity, interest, or expertise; a section of society or an aspect of life distinguished and unified by a particular characteristic

My artistic experience this year with collaborating and being supported by the CORRIDOR project to bring together our group exhibition called SPHERE with artists Bill Moseley and Parris Dewhurst at the Commercial Store Taralga was exceptional, not only with my arts practice but mentoring emerging artist Parris Dewhurst.
The mentoring program allowed a full concentration in time of encouraging and teaching new creative techniques that Parris could build on. It enabled Parris to develop her fine art printmaking into a multi discipline practice by bringing in concepts of collage, painting, composition and ideas around her inspiration the love of bushwalking. One of the exciting outcomes was that it brought for her new ways of seeing her process being developed for future exhibitions, which was very rewarding for both of us.
For my own art, the exhibition inspired me to question how I saw drawing and how I would love to convey it in my own practice. It led me to experiment with ink, textiles and sewing that I have wanted to do for some time and this exhibition encouraged it and also planted ideas for future drawings.
The outcome of our exhibition was incredibly enriching on many levels such as artistic connections, passing on valuable experience that flows into a mature studio practice, learning new confident curatorial practices with the CORRIDOR project and the Commercial Store and being so kindly looked after with superb food and accommodation by The Argyle Inn

Artist Genevieve Carroll

Genevieve Carroll - @carroll.genevieve

‘Genevieve grew up in a creative home within bush land north of Sydney and had regular holidays on the family farm. This balance of being nurtured between nature and creativity set a path for an artistic life with developing ideas around memory, interior and exterior environments in a humorous exaggerated way. After completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School, Genevieve moved to the remote village of Hill End NSW in 2005 and set up Hill End Press with partner Bill Moseley. Her work is held in private collections and public institutions including the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery and the National Library of Australia, Canberra’ Genevieve has participated as artist & educator with the CORRIDOR project on COOL BURN, BIG little histories of Canowindra, Star Picket [exhibited at Orange Regional Gallery], CORRIDOR air + PD Lab, and science/arts workshops.

Bill Moseley - @bill_mosely_artist

‘In a darkly romantic narrative, Moseley utilises antiquarian processes that straddle photography, printmaking and video. He majored in printmaking at the National Art School in 2004, having previously held exhibitions of silver gelatin based photography that is represented in collections in Sydney, Berlin and the Philadelphia Museum of Art and residency at the Bemis Centre, Omaha, America. Based in the Central West Tablelands village of Hill End, NSW, Moseley was drawn to Wet Plate Collodion photography by the intriguing record of the 19th century goldrush compiled by Beaufoy Merlin in and around Hill End during the gold rush years of the 1870’s. Recent exhibition and catalogue was on at Orange Regional Gallery January- February 2020 called A lake, a Forest and the Dark Voice Of the Sea with a series of tinypes and 3 channel video. Moseley is in partnership with Genevieve Carroll for Hill End Press and an educator.’ BM - 2022

She expresses herself through kinetic installations, texties, sculpture, printmaking and drawing. Parris’s visual language spans from bright and colourful to a more minimal palette. TESTIMONIAL

Sphere exhibition in Taralga. Saturday 17th September 2022

Being involved in the Sphere exhibition and mentorship program with The Corridor Project has pushed my art practice into new directions, and opened up new audiences. During the mentorship with Genevieve Carroll and Bill Moselesy, I developed new skills in printmaking, painting and relief collage, which culminated in a series of resolved works for the Sphere exhibition. It gave me the invaluable and rewarding experience of researching, developing and deepening my art practice in a professional studio setting with technical and creative support and guidance. I now have momentum and more ideas for my art practice that has been nourished by this project.

Being involved in discussions with Genevieve and Phoebe about my resolved artworks in the lead up to the exhibition gave me the confidence to articulate my ideas in a meaningful way to an audience during the public artist talk. Whilst working with the Commerical Store and the Corridor Project I learned new skills in curating, pricing works, promoting my own art, packing and transporting works safely, communicating and reaching out to new audiences. Selling my artwork has given me new ideas to create marketable artworks for future audiences and to start generating an income from my art practice.

The food and accommodation provided by The Argyle Inn was generous, inspiring and of a high quality; we were looked after so well by them. I will recommend them to friends and family to visit Taralga. Thank you for this wonderful and enriching experience..
