Join us for Plant X - national science week august 15-23-2020

During National Science Week 2020, the Orange, Cowra, Cabonne Science Hub, in collaboration with the Department of Primary Industries (DPI), delivered a digital program aligned with the 2020 International Year of Plant Health (IYPH). The initiative, titled Plant X, was presented through a series of scientist-led chats and webinars designed to unite community members, researchers, and the creative industries in exploring plant health systems—including pests, diseases, and beneficial insects.

The webinar series was moderated by Dr. Jordan Bailey, plant pathologist/mycologist, and Phoebe Cowdery, convener of the Orange, Cowra, Cabonne Science Hub.

Creative industry presentations and instructional videos were informed by plant biosecurity insights. Participants received resource kits, including a macro lens, supplied by DPI and Plant Health Australia.

Orange-Cowra-Cabonne Science Hub have delivered programs from 2015-2020 partnered with local Scientists, Orange, Cowra and Cabonne Councils, Department of Planning Industry and Environment - Cowra, Cowra NRM, Department of Primary Industries - Orange, Creative Industries, Age of Fishes Museum, local schools, community and the CORRIDOR project. The annual program intends to bring communities together learning new ways to interact with science led activity through workshops, events and fieldwork.

  • Environmental corridors, soundscapes, plant + bird identification relative to monitoring techniques, habitat and waterways a collaborative workshop in the field. Moderated by Phoebe Cowdery convener Orange Cowra Cabonne Science Hub with presentations by -  Dr. Jo Lenehan + sound recordist Kim Goldsmith Webinar and video - June 2020 - Inspiring Australia

  • Heather Vallance - Botanical Illustration and Flower Press construction

  • The Bundaburrah Creek Dabu Yarra Muran Project - Traditional cultural methodologies and application in the weaving of bark + traditional plants & grasses workshop. Production of 5 videos based on this workshop online session with key presenters scheduled for April - 2021.

  • Bioenergy from waste to energy what does the future of Renewables regionally look like? Join our discussion on international and local perspectives relevant to circular economies, technologies, engineering, and microgrids - with Dylan Gower, Arabella Fingleton, and Phoebe Cowdery.

  • PLANT X - National Science Week 2020, the Orange, Cowra, Cabonne Science Hub, and the Department of Primary Industries will deliver a program based on the 2020 International Year of Plant Health (IYPH). The online program, called Plant X, will be delivered through a series of scientist chats and webinar presentations bringing community, scientists, and creative Industries together to investigate the health of plant systems, including pests, diseases, and beneficial insects. Webinar presentations will be moderated by Dr. Jordan Bailey - Plant pathologist/mycologist, and Phoebe Cowdery - convener of the Orange, Cowra, Cabonne Science Hub.   • Creative Industry presentations and instructional videos will be based on plant biosecurity information and resource will be sent to participants including a macro lens, supplied by DPI and Plant Health Australia. Creative Industry tutors include Todd Fuller - Digital illustration and drawing using iPads, Angus Fisher - Botanical Illustration drawing methodologies.
