The corridor project PARTNERSHIP WTH ORANGE REGIONAL GALLERY
UPDATE… CORRIDOR AIR + PD LAB program was developed in 2020 by TCP…. supported by Create NSW, Regional Arts NSW - RAF, the CORRIDOR project (TCP), Orange Regional Gallery (ORG), DPIE Cowra, DPI Orange and Arts OutWest. The CORRIDOR AIR and PD LAB selected thirteen practicing artists and nine industry experts from the creative industries and environmental agencies investigating the intercept between humans and the natural world. The project involved professional development in curation, choreography, music, photo media, soundscape, geomorphology, insects, fungi, animals, rivers, and astronomy.
In 2022 Orange Regional Gallery (ORG) is curating a group show of site-specific work by artists selected from the CORRIDOR AIR + PD-LAB
Running across 2020-2021 the CORRIDOR AIR + PD-LAB was a curated residency program of Arts and Science residencies that included professional development, presentations, and workshops. Artists, writers, and curators collaborated during the program, expanding upon the themes of the Galari, Anthropogenic Biomes, Geomorphology, and Herbarium.
Orange Regional Gallery partnered with the CORRIDOR project; presenting seminars, and meeting with the artists throughout the residency program.
As part of the partnership, ORG is working with a selection of AIR + PD-LAB artists towards an exhibition in 2022. Artists Matt O’Brien, Stephan van der Merwe, Stephen Cavanagh, Thomas Thorby-Lister, and Heather Vallance have been selected for the group exhibition. The artists will work with Orange Regional Gallery curator Lucy Stranger to create new work, building upon key ideas that were formed during the residency at the CORRIDOR project.
The ongoing partnership between Orange Regional Gallery and the CORRIDOR project aims to support and strengthen the arts ecology of artists, art spaces, and institutions in the Central West of New South Wales.
We are looking forward to this regional partnership collaborating with artists, curators, industry partners, community in creating future exhibitions located in the new extension project currently underway at ORG (supported by the Regional Cultural Fund, Orange Council, and community donor program)
Supported by Orange Regional Gallery, Create NSW, the CORRIDOR project, Regional Arts NSW [for CORRIDOR PD LAB work developed for selection] DPI Orange - Herbarium and Mycology Department/Collection.

“The CORRIDOR project residency, arranged in association with Orana Arts Co!Lab, provided important and valuable time to dynamically reflect on many implications and relationships of nature and humans within the landscape. Working with environmental scientist Peter Dalmazzo I spent time walking and considering the CORRIDOR landscape, identifying and recording elements: weather, landscape, flora and fauna. Creating visual and audio field recordings.
My new project under development is Groundtruthing. This is a term which refers to information that is known to be real or true, provided by direct human observation and measurement. The residency created breathing space to seriously consider this methodology and also the larger concepts and perpetual questions but also provided time to be seduced by the dawn call of the Pied Butcherbird. We pondered historical maps, grids and straight lines drawn across the sinuous landscape and the implications and imposition of this ‘order’.
On arrival the Lachlan River was flowing gently and we discovered the mossy granite boulder islands. Almost immediately huge weather fronts arrived bringing roiling clouds, torrential rain and magnificent storms. Wyangala Dam was at full capacity and water was released raising the height of the river by many metres until the boulders and the grassy banks disappeared.
We overlapped with projection and sound artist Stephan de Wit, enabling us to view his new work in progress. This was a fruitful time to share ideas about our respective practices and consider possible future collaboration.
Much gratitude and thanks for support to @thecorridorprojectcowra
